Lake Argyle is the reason I returned to the Kimberley, and even after 15 years its beauty still stops me in my tracks.
This panoramic image captures the heart of the wet season in February — dramatic storm clouds rolling across the vast sky while the lake sits brimming at full capacity. Fresh runoff pours over Homestead Falls, sending plumes of silty water into the deep blue lake below, creating the striking natural patterns visible from above.
From this vantage point, the endless maze of islands and rugged Kimberley ranges stretches to the horizon, giving a true sense of the scale and wildness of Australia’s largest freshwater lake.
