LIGHTNING BOAB
This image offers a great perspective of the magnificent Boab tree, standing tall and proud in the middle of a freshly cut maze field in the Ord Valley. The photo captures a dramatic moment as a thunderstorm begins to recede, with the evening's final lightning strikes.
This image was a very happy accident though, captured as I fumbled with my camera settings set to automatic time-lapse mode. As I moved my car closer to the tripod, intending to grab a beer and crank some tunes, my headlights illuminated the tree in a stunning, almost surreal fashion.
In the distance, flashes of lightning illuminate the sky, casting an eerie, almost otherworldly glow over the landscape. The contrast between the bright flashes of lightning and the beauty of the boab tree perfectly accommodate one another while the clouds add another dimension to the image.
Despite the stormy conditions and the unpredictability of the lightning strikes, the Boab tree remains a steadfast and reassuring presence. Its trunk and gnarled branches suggest a sense of age and wisdom, as it stands to see another Kimberley storm.
